I'm a geek, no doubt. Among other things I'm a rubyist, theorist, idealist, and metaphysicist. I believe that every website or web app that you use should be beautiful, minimalist, and help you accomplish your goals in a fraction of amount of time they would normally consume. This infatuation with design traces itself back to my very roots in the industry. Since I've been 8 years old, I've been working with some sort of computer code. At 8 I learned HTML, at 10 I worked with MS Visual Basic, and by the time that I was 13 I was working with PHP and MySQL. In Fall 2010 I was introduced to Ruby and the Ruby on Rails platform. The simplistic, yet powerful nature of the Ruby language has I've been faithful to the language ever since I was introduced to it. Utilizing Ruby, HTML 4/5, CSS 3, and NoSQL data stores, I strive to build beautiful interfaces and web apps for myself and clients.

With my 8+ years of industry experience, I've seen a lot of ups and downs. The web is constantly evolving and I'm proud to state that I've been at the front of the trends. I cannot tell you how many developers I've seen left in the dark because they simply didn't keep up with times. My forward thinking nature and obsession for perfection has landed me jobs working with some of the best. These include ex-NFL player Sammie Smith, Florida Virtual School, Florida Parent Educators Association, and world-renowned business organizational consultant Teri Haggerty. It has been an experience and an honor to rub elbows with the big wigs and I look forward to the bright future ahead of me.

Whenever my friends ask me how I'm doing, the answer is usually the same: "Life gets more interesting by the day." For me this couldn't be more true. My endeavors in life, whether they're programming, academic, or others, always seem to take me somewhere new and exciting. I've spoken at conventions and leadership conferences, competed nationally in web development, and worked for the best. I never know what I'm waking up to in the morning, but I always know that I'll never have a boring day. Life is what you make of it and I've chosen to make the most of it.

8 Years of Industry Experience

With 8 years of industry experience, I've personally witnessed the rise and fall of hundreds of projects. I am self-trained in everything from HTML to Java and have a particular interest in Ruby. Below I've outlined a small amount of my skills and ranked them.

I've worked for the big guys

From names like Sammie Smith, an ex-NFL player, to Florida Virtual School, a worldwide virtual school, I've worked for the big guys. Boy has it been an awesome time! Check out some of my recent work by rolling over the photos below.

    Doorknob Life Purpose

During the winter months of 2011, I was honored to work with Teri Haggerty, a world-renowned organization consultant as she prepared to launch her first of many life purpose discovery books. The Doorknob Books brand provides youth and adults with life purpose discovery material and life success coaching.

    Cloud Metrics

Cloud Metrics, an Orlando-based social media consulting firm, had a problem. They had the people and resources to find with as many clients as they could handle, but they didn't have a "look". I solved this by completely revamping their website with new marketing banners and copy on their homepage and packages page.

    Sammie Smith's Sport Camp

In the summer of 2010, I designed a web presence and identity for S & S Sports, a sports camp owned by ex-NFL player Sammie Smith. The project was a thrill to work on! I took Sammie's website from a GoDaddy landing page to a full-fledged web identity, while my colleague, Shane Maloy, churned away at copytext.

    University High Employment

As part of a state and national web development competition by the Future Business Leaders of America, I developed the website pictured here in a remarkably small 4,122 lines of code. The information contained on the website is fictitious, but it remains on my portfolio to show just how quickly I an develop a scalable web application.

    BESTExpo Survey

The Florida Parent-Educators Association hosts a gigantic homeschooling convention in Orlando, FL every year. In 2011 FEPA launched a pilot program, the BESTExpo, to showcase young entrepreneurs. I was honored to have the chance to implement a simplistic, web based survey system for FPEA that made it easy to collect input from the attendees about their thoughts on the BESTExpo.

    Florida Virtual School

From January 2011 forward, I've been honored to work with FLVS in their IT department. I was originally hired as a software development intern but have since worked in interface design on their various backend web applications. FLVS serves 60K+ students anually and have won awards year after year for their remarkable work.

Nationally Ranked Web Developer

In addition to being a nationally ranked web developer (FBLA NLC 2011 Web Development Competition), I also ranked in a variety of other competitions. Competing in geeky competitions has been a fun endeavor, but it's the thrill of competing with the brightest minds that keeps me coming back for more.

Top 15 Web Developers Nationally

FBLA NLC 2011 Web Development Competition

In the summer months of 2011 I was honored to compete at a national level and represent Florida in the FBLA National Leadership Conference. While there I competed and ranked nationally as one of the Top 15 web developers. (See "University High Employment" in my work for the site that was built for the competition.)

2nd among FL Web Devs

FL FBLA SLC 2011 Web Development Competition

The FBLA State Leadership Conference offers students a wide variety of ways to expand their leadership abilities and compete with other students. At the FL FBLA SLC 2011 I ranked 2nd in the website development competition. (See "University High Employment" in my work for the site that was built for the competition.)

4th among FL Cyber Security Students

FL FBLA SLC 2010 Cyber Security Competition

In Spring 2010 I competed in a cyber security competition at the FL FBLA State Leadership Conference (SLC). The competition consisted of an objective test based around CompTIA Security+. In just a few days, I studied for the test and ranked 4th place in Florida among other cyber security students. I was invited to compete at a national level, but gratefully declined.

Convention Speaker at Age 15

Throughout my years in the computer industry, I've spoken at several conventions. Some of my appearances were to educate the public about safety issues related to social media, while others were to answer questions about how to appeal to students in an online learning environment.

FPEA Homeschool Convention 2011

A convention for homeschool parents and children

In addition to working with FPEA on the "BESTExpo Survey" (see my work above), I also spoke at the FPEA Homeschool Convention on cyber security and the privacy problems with social media. Over the course of a few short presentations, my colleague and myself informed homeschool parents and students of the privacy risks in social media, as well as what they could do to mitigate them.

FLVS Momentum 2010

A staff conference for educators at FLVS

FLVS's Momentum conferences were originally meant to be staff-only conferences. It is really the one time of the year that FLVS teachers can get together in person and collaborate. I, along with 9 other bright students, was invited to speak to and answer questions for two groups of two hundred teachers on how they could make their teaching style more appealing to virtual students.
